If the traffic calming includes speed humps, the bus company may decide against a bus route. Where I live the residents association petitioned for speed humps, and when they were successful Arriva pulled the bus service due to the risk of back injuries to the drivers from the humps. The reason the RA wanted humps? The buses were speeding through the estate. and several children had narrow escapes from being run over by a speeding bus.

Ask yourself if you'd want a diesel bus parked outside your house, rattling your windows, at 700 in the morning. And then 715. And then 0730. And 0745. And so on.

    I wouldn't.

If the buses come that ofet in your area then you are lucky!

I dont think we are designated as a home zone, but we have a 20mph limit all through the development and speed humps. They still put a bus route through, although 7 is the earliest and the last one is only about 6.30 every hour or so.

It can cause problems as the roads are quite narrow and people do park on them
  • The council petitioned the residents on this estate before it was pulled down - it was very run down and the residents were then relocated to other towns/villages in the surrounding area. The estate was then rebuilt/renamed, and even though the council knew that the residents they petitioned were unlikely to return, they used their opinion to have an impact on the plans.

If we are to petition for more speed humps, who would we do this to? The builders are still on the estate and the roads have yet to be adopted by the council. There are some humps already, but these are 'block paved' into the road and the remainder of the road is yet to be topped off.

    thanks
