Can anyone help please? My laptop was working fine this morning but is now
going very slow. Last night I ran a full scan with AVAST but cannot see that it would have affected anything and it did not find any problems. Can someone help me with this please? Scrolling is slow and I just made an error where, due to not using the touch pad, some words appeared in the wrong place. Cutting them out and pasting to the correct place was very slow which really surprised me. How can I investigate where the problem lies?

One assumes that you have rebooted since the problem began?
"Slow" usually means lack of memory, and/or lack of disk space, and/or something taking a large proportion of the CPU. You've been around for long enough that I won't patronise you by explaining how to investigate each of these!0 -
You might understand this more than me but after doing the Avast scan I did one with
Ad-Aware and the speed is back to normal.
The laptop still has plenty of memory and I am using it for only 2-3 hours each day
but despite being around a long time and having a computer for ten years I am not a "techie" and was overjoyed when I found MSE and this particular forum. Therefore, John, you can patronise me whenever you like. Generally, for some things, I ask via Google e.g. someone asked me to send them a copy of a screen I was having trouble with by using the Prt Sc Sys Rq key. I know how to do it now but didn't when they asked.0 -
What anti virus, anti malware, firewall etc. have you got on there altogether?0

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log):idea:0 -
If your Malwarebytes' AntiMalware scan doesn't come up with anything, I'll tell you how to do the things I suggested first...0

I feel embarrassed because, as I said above, the laptop is running normally now.
I have great faith in AliEnRIK so I will now download Malwarebytes and Hijackthis and report back. The programmes I have are:
Windows Defender
"" Firewall
AVAST
CCleaner
Lavasoft - AdAware
The browser I use is Firefox as I have read a few times that it too provides protection.0 -
I could not copy the whole log and did try all different ways. There was nothing at all suspicious on it Tell me how to take a copy if you want to see it. Below is the result of the FULL scan.
Will do HIJACK THIS tomorrow. Apparently, I had both these programmes but they were not the latest versions.

I now have the HIJACK THIS log but once again the standard way of taking a copy does not work. Why is that? This apparent discrepancy also means that I cannot store
a copy in My Documents. Normally, I would right click, copy or cut and then paste but right clicking is not giving me these options. In the past, on my previous computer I was able to post logs on this forum.0 -
You need to do 'Select' or 'Select All' within the log files first. At the moment it sounds like nothing has been saved to the clipboard to be pasted. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
