MARBLES - Help please!

in Credit cards
Hi All, I have a Marbles credit card which has been an absolute nightmare. They have hiked the interest several times (latest 39.95%!!!!) and I have no understanding why when I always pay on time, above the minimum and have a good credit rating. Ive moaned & complained about this as I have 2 other credit cards with Halifax BOS and they dont charge anywhere near this rate, and Marbles are owned by them too. Anyway, I complained and got the standard reply so told them to close my account.
Fortunately Ive managed to scrape the money together to pay it off as just want rid of this debt to them. My balance is £771.01 and Ive rung today and asked what the exact figure is I need to pay to completely clear everything. They are saying its £792.28 as that includes the interest they say. What I dont understand and hope someone can clarify is that today is the 9th of the money, so how am I liable for a full months interest if I pay the amount today? They are saying I will still owe £792.28 if I pay when the next statement comes through at the end of this month. They say interest is calculated from the month prior. Is this correct?
My statement date next will be 26/5/10. The interest on my current statement was around £22.00 and I made a 30.00 payment - taking my balance to £771.01. Is this correct that I should have to pay £792.28? I would of thought they would just charge me interest up until today when I clear the account.
Sorry to ramble but Ive no idea how the interest works, If anyone could help Id be grateful as I dont trust Marbles one bit! x

They are probably correct & once paid off, I would just check on next statement on any left over interest to pay off in case they miscalculated0
