my brand new one bought in a shop had 2.6 on it (about may 06)
these could have 2.6, 2.7, 2.71 or 2.80 system software loaded on them0 -
Papa Lazarou- you cannot downgrade 2.7 and above, and i would never downgrade psp's as it is illegal (i think)0

So's chipping you dvd player, modding your xbox etc. The chance of ever anything happening is remote. Whats more, just because their terms of agreement say it, doesn't make it illegal. Just look at Decss for DVDs a few years ago - DVD's all say you can't reverse engineer it yet the courts said the dvd companies terms were illegal.
As for 2.7 etc - give it time and it will be hacked. Just the way of technology. If there is a way of locking something, there is always the reverse. Just needs some smart bod to work out how (just look at the software hacks now possible on the xbox - you don't even need to open it now.0 -
it isnt illegal as u have the right to do what u wish with ur console0

They'd like you to (prolly illegally...) think it is tho...0 -
i'm not interested in hacks for any device, as you have a chance of destroying the software/hardware made for the device to run properly.0

Not really. Sony provide firmware upgrades to allow games to run on the console for the end user to add. Why would putting an earlier firmware be any worse?0
