basically if a job is advertised at 22k you only apply because your atracted to that salary! thats high for bristol by the way!

its not my fault head office got it wrong.......

So, was the 22k on the advert FOR the job or on the letter for the offer of an interview - as if it was on the offer for the interview letter then you already applied for the job so you can't use the argument that you only applied for the job as it was 22k as you would have already applied by the time you received that letter.

    Anyway...

What I would do, if HR have really mucked up and 22k was never going to be on offer is to write to them asking for expenses [a day's wage, and travel to and from the interview/s plus phone expenses] saying that you applied and attended an interview based on the 22k information that you were told and it appears that you have been misled by the HR dept as clearly the manager was never able to offer the 22k for this role so you would like reimbursement for this basic mistake.

Of course, you'll not get the job or an offer of one - unless the manager thinks it's a hoot that you have gone against HR and sees the potential....

This conflict stratagy will not make for a good start.

Say you are still interested at salary xxx(bull it up with the intereted in the sector etc.) should they be able to create this new position.

    Keep looking.

If you new £22k was high then that sends the greedy message.
  • If the manager has any sense even if you now decide to accept the £16575 he will stay away. You have shown what hassle you will bring him.

Of course he should be allowed to look for other candidates if you didnt accept the offer because you didnt like the money.

Overall when you admit you didnt meet the person requirement I am unsure why you are still trying to get 22k.

the 22k was for someone who was perfect or more than met the person requirement. You didnt even meet the minimum which means if it was a scale of 19-22 you wouldnt even get the 19k. This is how salaries and scales work.

The conclusion being as I said before, the only outcome of complaining about what was offered would be the withdrawal off the job offer. You have to face facts, in a vast number of cases the number of suitable applicants far exceed the number of positions available so if you don't like what is offered and complain then don't be supprised if the next person in line who is grateful for the chance of a job gets it.
