i'm hoping someone can help.
A bit of background.... My husband use to run his own business which ended at the beggining of Feb, He tried to claim Job Seekers allowence but was told because he had paid Class 2 NI he coundn't, which was disappointing
but we lived with it and was unemployed from end of March upto yesterday.
Yesterday he started labouring on a building site on a Temporary Job which will last upto the end of November :j. He will be classed as self employed under the Construction Industry Scheme where his employer pays his tax, but not his National Insurance.
My question is, if he pays Class 2 NI we will be in the same boat in November when he is laid off as he won't be able to claim Jobseekers allowence again, If he pays Class 3 NI will he be able to claim in November ??
We can't claim income based Job Seekers Allowence as i work part time & earn £15 a week too much !
I know it's a bit long winded...but any help would be great

Even if he were actually employed for this period, he still wouldn't have paid sufficient contributions.

yes but it was only for 7 weeks so i guess this isn't longer enough, thanks anyway0 -
My other half had the same problem, its the last 2 tax years NI conts that count, so whatever he does now wouldn't help for November I'm afraid. JS depends on his 2008/9 and 2009/10 contributions.0

It would depend on the 2007/8 and 2008/9 tax years.0 -

Healy is correct at the tax years and benefit years are different.
2009-2010 tax year will be used by DWP from Jan 2011.

Could I just ask if anyone knows if it is possible to claim anything if my OH has not made enough contributions. To cut a long story short he pretty much didn't pay himself anything so that he could keep the business going. Now he has lost out on two points. It seems as thou he would have been better paying himself a full wage and closing the business earlier.Total debt Feb 2012 = £54354.11 😳

This will depend on your income and the level of household savings.0 -
