New LCD TV needs better sound

I have just bought a new LCD flat screen TV, the sound is not bad but not as good as my old CRT tv, I am thinking of perhaps adding a 2.1 external speaker setup to enhance the sound. Any suggestions please, I have looked at various multi media kits, logitech ect, even the QVT2 (£299 to expensive).I don't want a full blown surround sound system

If £299 is too expensive, how much do you want to spend.

If you just add speakers, the limiting factor will be the amplifier in the TV.

If the TV has line-out or audio-out sockets (red and white twin phonos) then go to Richer Sounds, eBay, whatever and get a standard HiFi amplifier and speakers.

Alternatively, if you have a decent HiFi at the moment, just feed the TV audio out into that (Tuner, Aux or Tape input)

The ones I have plug into ther headphone socket, and are powered by their own supply so the power of the tv output isn't a big problem.

Bass unit and 2 satellites and it sounds pretty good for just a few pounds. Not surround sound obviously but for the price it's hard to beat.
