Car tax and Insurance

Good morning,
I bought a Ford Fiesta Silver 07 plate last Saturday from my son in law who works in a dealership 200miles from where I live, he had it delivered to me on Thursday. The Tax had run out and I told my Insurance company (Churchills) last Saturday that I needed a cover note to cover me from the Thursday for it as I needed to go and tax it, so I waited for the cover to arrive, but all they sent me was the documents for my breakdown cover, so I rang them and said the cover note had not arrived they said they had sent out the cover note/insurance documents to me and also the breakdown cover on Tuesday by 1st class post, my son rang them on Thursday and explained that I would be without a vehicle and could they overlap my insurance on my old car until I received my cover note for the fiesta.so they have overlapped my insurance on my old car until midnight on Monday. I tried to tax the car online as they do not require any documents as it is an electronic system, but because the car is still registered in the previous owners name I could not tax it through that source. still nothing arrived on Friday, so I rang the Insurance company again and said what happens if I do not receive the documents on Monday, so they said they would have to extend the overlap and send out another Insurance cover note. Still nothing arrived today (saturday) and I am getting annoyed by now. Is it possible in circumstances like mine that I could have got an alternative temporary cover note from another insurance company for a short period of time so that I could have taxed the car that way ? at the moment my car is sitting on my driveway and I have am having to wait for this so called 1st class postal system.

There are companies that do 'short term' cover. I was offered this when I recently bought a new car over a holiday weekend. Not sure how it would work for you! You need the cover note to tax the car and I'm sure you can only use originals at PO.

If you can get round the cover note then you you could insure it then tax it. So if you insured for 2 days, got cover note, taxed it then you would be covered by your own inusrance.

Maybe you would be able to use fax or email copy at a local DVLA office?

Aa qucik 'google' for Temporary Car Insurance list a few companies such as http://quote.ecarinsurance.co.uk/ShortTermCarInsurance.aspx?source=6&gclid=CPOVp-u8wqECFReZ2Aodng_MDQ&mpch=sem

Nope, has to be original certificate/covernote to tax.

You may get away with a downloaded one at Post Office, but not normally at DVLA Office as they are trained to look out for it (e.g. the date the insurance started being same day so no way could it have been posted etc), whereas PO's may not be so vigilant.
