working less than 16 hours

Hi there

I currently work 16 hours and my husband works 37. I am on maternity leave.

When I return I want to go back 10 hours per week.

Currently I receive £340 in child tax credit for my two children, no childcare element. I receive no other benefits.

Will dropping below 16 hours reduce my entitlement?? How will affect me?? Want to know before I request that my employer (the nhs) reduces my contracted hours.

If I work ten hours my income will be £7200 before tax and my husbands is £22000. I tried to use the calculator on entitled to and HMRC but it was grossly inaccurate. I firstly did it based on my current circumstances and it was totally wrong, amounts wise, and also told be I shouldn;t be paying council tax and should recieved childcare element. HMRC themselves told me their calculator was wrong!! How useful!!

Thank you

Kirstie

Yes that would be wrong that you pay no council tax on over 30k a year. You wont get any help with childcare costs either
Did you try entitledto instead with the figures and see what it says for child tax credits

the entitlement tables are here - the income will be too high for WTC...I am assuming your current award was based on a much lower income the previous year

£340 per week, per every 4wks or per year?

You are not in receipt of WTC (Your husbands salary is too high) so your working hours are irrelevant.

You should only be receiving the basic £545pa award (Currently £1090 because you will have a child under 1)

You will definitely not get council tax benefit, your joint income is far too high. Not sure if you are using the calculator correctly.

Thank you for your help...I am so confused.

My award is worked out on a combined income of £34000, I have just checked the award notice, and it definitely says £34000 total income on it, and they give us £347. I keep getting told I should be getting chilcare element, but I don;t actually get it. When I do the calculator, it says I get less working 10 hours than I do working 16...and the calculator based on the figures on my actual award notice doesn't match what I actually get.......god they make it hard work!

I forgot to put the child benefit on my original post, sorry!

Think I will just have to make a decision and whatever I get I get!

    £347 per annum?

CTC is made up of 3 elements...

    Family
    Child
    Baby

With 2 children and an income of £34k, you should just be receiving the £545 family element + £545 baby element. Your income is too high for a child element.

you won't get any help with childcare as your working under 16 hours. Both parents need to be working 16 hours plus to he eligable, but on 34k I doubt it would be very much if any

Hubby earns 28,000 but over 30,000 with overtime and we don't have wtc, and would only get childcare costs if i work 16 hours a wk. He gets the ctc and child benefit. So i would imagine the same would apply to yourselves as income too high. x
