Where do DVLA get their information from?

I applied for my provisional driving licence recently. On the application form I filled in my first name and surname only. I have three middle names which I never use, they only appear on my birth certificate. They aren't on my passport which is the ID I used to apply. My licence arrived in the post with my first name and surname correct, one of my middle names spelled incorrectly, and one of my other middle initials (the third middle name was missed out entirely). Where did they get this information from? Do they look up copies of people's birth certificates (seems unlikely as my name would be spelled right on that!) or have they got it off some kind of database I didn't know I was on?

One would hope they do some back ground checks and a bit of digging around TBH.0

DVLA do have access to Passport records and check them. Tells you this on their website.0

DVLA forms usually ask for Fornames in full, they did when I worked there 13 years ago anyway. They probably got your details off the ID you sent with the application.
In my limited time there some of the applications where ppl tried to drop middle names etc, drivers were trying to lose previous convictions from driving records this was before photo licences though when no ID was required.0
