British Gas Electricity help
Can anyone advise please.
Have electric from British Gas since 2006.
We pay Monthly budget using the Standard Tariff.
We noticed they wanted to reduce our monthly payment from £24 per month to £11.00
I thought thats a huge jump.
Upon further investigation our meter readings are reversed and have been since 2006.
My first question is should I contact Brit Gas and tell them.
My 2nd question is what are they likely to say as its not really my fault as even the sticker on the meter says rate 2 is 0000 to 0700 and its the active one during the day.
Even the meter readers haven't seen it.
The last part of the question is
My bill looks like this
============================
428kwh x 5.182 over 79 days £22.18
Night
===========================
57kwh x 30.458 over 79 days £17.36
Day
===========================
If I have worked it all out correctly
The 1st 125 Kwh in Day is @30.458p = £38.07 Tier 1
The rest 303 Kwh in Day is @11.20p = £33.93 Tier 2
The Night is 57Kwh is @5.182p = £2.95
Approximately
So total of 74.95 / 3 = £25.00 per month apx
Would someone mind telling me if ive got that right just before I phone British gas and try and explain it all.
=======================================
Many thanks in advance any guidance on any aspect will be most helpful.
Regards Simon

But if that is the case (that the sticker clearly states that it is for midnight to 7 am but that is the one that is active during the day) then surely that contradicts your claim that you are faultless (which is not the same as saying it is your fault.)
You can be rebilled for the whole period at the correct rates - not just for your latest bill. You will, however, be given plenty of time (interest free) to repay any difference.0 -
Hi,
To be honest ive never bothered looking.
Ive just filled in the boxes on the card that the meter person leaves and left it out.
I realise that its upto me to check that its all correct.
Its seems incredible ive not noticed for 4 years.
Looks like im going to have to be doing some calculating.
Many thanks Simon0 -
Thankfully, your usage is very small for an electric-only property. Be sure to explain when you telephone that you have 'twisted meter readings', they'll understand what you mean.0
