Blue screen of death after installing new programme?

I installed a few programmes (all legal - off cnet and adobe) to try and find a photo editor. I installed Irfanview which didn't open so which I uninstalled; Photoscape which didn't seem to be able to do what I wanted so again uninstalled and finally Adobe PhotoShop Elements 8.0 which did do what I want and is still on my desktop.
Anyway, I left my computer on and came back to be told that my computer had crashed suddenly and had a blue screen of death? I've been googling what the codes mean but have no idea. So would it be just wise to uninstall the Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0? Or should other things be attempted?
