Yep she'll get that £29.50 per week Carers Premium pre 5th April 2010. After this date she'll get £30.05.

Don't forget that although she will get a carer's premium on IS, her IS will then be reduced by the amount of Carer's Allowance each week.

On the rates before the beginning of April, I received £40.70 IS a week after my CA had been taken off.

Isn't that just the same as adding 29.50 to the IS rate though? Carers allowance is over £50 if you are not on IS isn't it? Otherwise there's not much point claiming it?

ETS-will it affect the amount of Council tax benefit-currently recieved in full? Need to get all of this straight as I am more confused than ever trying to read te info on the govt site.

I don't know the exact figures, but there is a set amount for IS, plus the carer's premium. Then they take off £53.90 (the amount for CA - last yearr it was £53.10) and the remainder is how much IS they pay you each week.

Carer's Allowance is £53.90 (from April 6th 2010) for everybody who is entitled to claim it, whether on IS or not.

So in real terms, someone on IS who claims carers is only about £6 better off? Nothing to get excited about but I suppose every little helps.

Because I don't know the exact figures, I don't know how much better off, but it certainly isn't over £50! (maths isn't my strong point anyway :D, especially at this time of night)

Thanks Kingfisher. I had understood that the 29.90 was paid on top of the 64.50- it's better to know the reality!

The income support is reduced when Carers Allowance is awarded, but the person will still be £30.05 better off each week.

As for the council tax benefit as long as they are on Income Support then that will not be reduced.
