Solicitors charges for emails

  • I think the question is did they also charge you to check the stuff when it arrived or just the e-mail confirming it was enough?

Anyway - thanks to everyone for the replies and I think the general consensus is that I pay for emails with information in and query the ones that are just confirming/thanking for previous communication.
And like your example in #11, if you can show that more than 1 charge was raised in any 6 minutes, you should challenge it.

The example in number 11 is her sending an e-mail and then the solicitors almost immediate response.

The fact the solicitor responded immediately suggests that a response was expected or required.

Had the OP perharps had a phone discussion about what to e-mail or such.

The original message was 1. I said I had a whole lot of old land docs for her to go through, could i drop it in on Thurs or Fri 2. she replied she was on leave Thurs and Fri and the following Mon and Tues but her colleague would be available. then my response as above.

Am going lawn-mowing and then I will go through every single charge with a large glass of wine!!!!

However it is these niggles that really bug as often it was an exchange of information which could have been within one 5 minute phone call - but of course email is now more commonly used and I for one like to note things down.
Then why didn't you initiate a telephone conversation then. As already stated you should have been aware of how much the solicitor charges.

Bit phone-phobic - as I said, especially with important stuff I prefer to write it down so there is no misunderstanding.

This is just really a "wonder" as I have no gripes with paying for work - also from experience, as a good client of the firm, negotiation is often expected.

ha - obviously important stuff is not really what time I am going to arrive! but - if I bumped my head falling out of bed at least I could refer to my email for the time of the drop-off!

my solicitor did not charge for e-mails. if it hadn't been for e-mails everything would have taken far longer to resolve. maybe i was lucky!
it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:

The OP seems to want the best of both worlds though. It sorted out quickly and cheaply but also lots of touchy feely stuff without paying for it.

No, just want to be a competent executor for my mother's estate (none of which goes to me anyway) and make sure the charges borne by the estate are fair and correct.
