Advice on 12month 'rolling' contract please..

Hello,

I agreed online to a 12 month subscription for web hosting with a compnay called 'onlinewebtraders.com' 12 months ago.
I got sidetracked with other things and didn't have a use for the web hosting, therefore forgot about it.
This 12 month subscription ended today, the first thing I knew about it was when this company helped themselves to another 12 month subscription fee from my Paypal account.

I obviously got in touch with them and asked what was going on, they stated at the time of me agreeing to the 12 month subscription online, on my initial Paypal payment to them, I unknowingly agreed to a 12 month rolling contract, due to a default setting on the Paypal payment stating 'and the same payment in 12 months'.
I can honestly say I wasn't aware of this.
Had a reply back from company saying they are not obliged to refund blah blah, but will offer me £65 back from a £89.93 payment, as a good will gesture.
I sent back an email asking how they justified a difference of £24.93, for an hour or so into a 12month contract, yet to hear back.

Anybody advise on where I stand with this?

Cheers

Hi. Have you asked them for copies of evidence of you agreeing to this or checked whether what they have said is accurate?

    thanks for replies

sunshine12 - i looked back on my initial paypal payment which DOES state 'Then £89.93 GBP for each year,

custardy - yes it was a paypal subscription payment.

i realise that i agreed to this online in principle, but i honestly didn't pick up on my initia paypal payment being a 12 month rolling subscription.

my argument now is that they want to charge me £24.93 for effectively cancelling a 12 month contract less than an hour into it, which i honestly didn't realise i agreed to.

they have since emailed me back stating that the charge is bascially for their time in answering my emails,/taking time to ask management about the case blah blah blah...

You'll probably find it's actually cost them more than £24.93 to do all the admin involved in cancelling the contract. I don't think you've got much to grumble about here, to be honest. It's unfortunate, but sounds fair to me.

I would grab there offer with both hands and be grateful, its not just the hour you mention. There are all sorts of costs incorporated into that hour. labour,
rent, rates, computers, pens, adding machines, pencils, rent, utilities, furnishings. etc, etc, etc.

Youre probably guilty of not reading the original terms and conditions (wer'e all guilty of this sometime in our lives)so they could have just as easily told you to 'jog on'
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

exactly the same thing happened to me, but unfortunately i won't get anything back, this company hides the subscription within your paypal account so if you don't use paypal regularly you won't see it until its taken again ! I've never used the website and had trouble even getting my website up on the computer. Shocking way to conduct a business !!!!!!!!!!!!! STAY WELL CLEAR of this company.
