i currently live in an area that is classed as cheshire so entitled to a free bus pass....im going to be moving to ellesmere port, is this classed as merseyside, if so, would i then be eligible for the free train & bus pass??

If it is a free bus pass due to disability, and it comes under Merseytravel, you will have to apply for the pass by post, then wait for a medical, even if you disability is on the list of acceptable conditions. I queried the need for a medical for my son, as he has more than one condition on their list. He also receives high rate care and high rate mobility DLA (indefinite award). I offered to send in his award notice.

Merseytravell answered that everybody, without exception, has to have a medical at their offices in Hatton Gardens. My son's medical is at the end of the month - I applied for him in January.

yeah i read they may call you for a medical. I have more than 1 conditions they specify as being eligible for it, so i will have to get my mum to ring for me (im deaf) and try and see if ellesmere port is part of merseyrail area

I've been told it isn't may call you, it's will call you for a medical. What a waste of time and money - surely evidence from your doctors should count if it is a condition on their list?

If you do find that Ellesmere Port comes under Merseytravel, I'd advise you to contact them for the forms as soon as possible (even before you move) so that you can get the ball rolling. From application to medical for my son it will be four and a half months. Also, they don't contact you when they get the forms - they only write to you a month before they give you an appointment. I only found that out when I rang to ask if they had received my child's application, as I hadn't heard from them.

    Good luck x

it does not matter if it is on the mersey rail or not if it is in cheshire then it is cheshire council who you apply to for example ormskirk aughton park and town green are all on the mersey rail line but are in west lancs so we get our passes from lanashire county council and are not allowed to use them on the trains ferries.

From april first 2009 cheshire county council was replaced by cheshire west and chester and ellsmere port is in that county according to there website
