Help! my son was deferred untill July

Sorry for starting a new thread, I couldnt find my old one. My son is 16, an just had his 2nd Interview for the Army, he was doing really well Barb, fitness test, maths and english etc but today it all went wrong.
He wasnt passionate about his job choice (because he told them he hasnt really decided between 2 options) so he has to have a good think, train and revise before he goes back.

Does anyone have any tips for the 2nd Interview please? we are both really dissapointed.

Also at this stage is it allowed to start the application process for the RAF or do you have to do one or the other? (he is panicing he might not get in the army)

I would keep all options open at this point, and show an interest to the RAF by popping into the AFCO and explain your situation.

You dont say what trade he was looking into, but i know that for 2010 recruitment numbers are reduced due to lack of personel leaving the forces.

In turn, this means that the Armed Forces can pick and choose who they want to sign-up, and not just put every man/women who passes through the door onto the bus to recruit training.

If you can tell us what trade he wants to undertaken in the Army & RAF, and maybe we can point you into a better direction for more information.

I am always going to be biased towards the RAF, as i am a serving member.

    Regards,

I'm sorry but I'm not really genned up on the army recruitment proocess (Junior wants to go into the RN!) but I assume your son has passed the initial apptitude tests, passed the medical. Has he now had the 2nd interview or has that been put back until July?

I assume if has been put back until July then this may be a blessing in disguise.

By this he has time to focus on his GCSEs and time to think about what he really wants to do whether that be in the Army or the RAF or wherever.

Others may correct me but I 'think' that the RAF aren't recruiting at the moment - but I'm not sure whether that's for Officers or generally ......or even if they have stopped recruiting.

The only thing I would say is that to apply for the RAF (assuming I'm wrong) at the same time as having an application progressing to join the army may show a lack of committment to either service iyswim.

It might be worth your son joining arrse as its a website for soliders and soliders' families, and if its anything like the navy version, there will be a forum especially for people wanting to join and he will get lots of brillant advice

I know its hard for your son to have this delay - Junior's application has gone anything but smoothly, but as I've said to him, no-one said it was going to be easy and getting over these hurdles just shows his determination to succeed.
