Power Steering

I currently have a 2001 Rover 25 2.0lt TDI. I noticed I have fluid leak on my power steering. Having to top it up every few days. I haven't let it get low, keeping an eye in it. Was going to have a look at it over the weekend.

I don't have access to the area which it seems to be coming from (due to a few things in the way). But it seems to be coming from around the pump area. Not sure if its a leak from a pipe going in the top of the pump or a seal on the pump its self, maybe on the shaft.

But that's not just it. The last two days I have notice a clunk when turning at low rev's. Setting off or pulling out at a junction. Doesn't happen when at speed or higher rev's. The clunk seems to be when turn both ways, not just left or right.

I'm thinking that the pump is on its way out, but not to sure (don't have much knowledge about P/S).

Any advise or help would be great on this.

The only thing I ask is please be patient in any response from me, I'm about to get ready to go out. I know what its like to give advice and the User just to disappear.

Thanks in advance from anything posted.

I am mechanicly minded (also have the Haynes manual for it, just to be sure), and can change it myself without a problem. like I said in my O/P, just not had dealing wioth P/S before, so wasn't 100% on the issue.

Just didnt want to strip it all down to find out its the pump and not be able to use the car until I get a pump.

    Thanks somech.

ok remove the belt grab the pulley if it moves in and out a fair bit then the pumps prob shot.
you will have to remove a few bits to verify where the leak is though.
when you replace a power steering part to bleed it top up the fluid start the engine and turn steering wheel from lock to lock several times.
