LIVE music costs?

Hi all,

Just got a quote in for a live singer at my wedding, wondering how it compares to anything you guys may have got. (Its the first ive got)

Note: our venues are two separate buildings across the road from one another, so all gear has to be moved between venues.

Reception

2 x 30min sets during wedding breakfast. Swing/ballads type music (think, sinatra, robbie williams swing when you're winning album)

Evening Do

Live singing for our 1st & 2nd dances.

Disco, from 7pm - midnight. Can give him a playlist if we want, he can do anything, from cheesy to golden oldies, right through to the latest floor fillers.

2 x 30 min sets during the evening, again anything we like. He will learn a particular song if we want it. Can sing classical, swing, right through to latest chart hits.

And the grand total for this? £500
Anyone else had any quotes for this type of thing?

I've not had any experience of getting quotes but that seems reasonable!

My OH has been in bands and more recently in a duo, and has several mates in the music biz...that quote seems very reasonable. Charges usually reflect time at a place rather than the number of songs/length of sets. If he's doing your reception and evening for £500 thats really good. I know of solo singers going out for £200 for just 2-3 hours.
And a band for £400 is good value too
Btw my OH will be getting his new duo up and running aiming at the functions market in the next few months...anyone getting married in the Mid/South Cheshire/Chester area next year...????

Warrington in October this year...don't suppose they fancy coming and doing a practice run for an MSE price :rotfl: ??
  • We are having a harpist at the ceremony - £250 for 2 hours. Our evening band is a top band in the area - has 8 members I think (!) and its £1500 for the evening but that does also include a disco. The actual band are on for 2 hours. So your quote seems very reasonable!

  • My goodness me Floss, where oh where have you found a band to play all evening for £400??? Please tell me! The cheapest quote we've had so far is £650 for 2 x 45mins sets with MP3 music and party lighting played before and in between the sets.

Weve got a band who plays locally sometimes - weve been to see them a few times. Think we are paying £300 for three hours. Got them via the pub were having reception in as they play there quiet often.

Yes, where did you get a band for £400? Our singer sometimes works with a swing band, but they charge £500/hr for 5 person band! I cant afford those too.

That sounds about right, we're paying £600 for something similar. Really wanted to get a larger band to go with it, but they can cost a fortune.
