What classes a house as detached ?

The title of this may seem obvious but heres a strange one . Im currently bidding on a new build over here in northern ireland . Its in a development and is being marketed as a detached property . Thing is that it has a carport which actually is attached to the next door home via a large steel beam with the roof of the carport attached to both houses . The other gable side of the house has the other neighbours carport attached to my gable wall . Hence i wont be able to walk around the property without going into my neighbours driveway . The estate agent insists that it would be classed as link detached if it was a garage and not a carport linking them . Thing is its a pretty top notch carport which only really needs a door at the front and back to turn it into a garage . Anyhow im thinking its described wrongly and it should be actually described as a linked terrace ,given that it the same on both sides .
Whats yours thoughts ? Surely this will affect the selling price if it was described wrongly . I asked the EA how am i meant to paint the gable wall without asking my neighbour for permission to enter there drive way . They have assured me that wayleave is built into the contract of sale to allow maint of the gable wall .
Also should it be named as detached in the title of deeds ? what happens if i buy and then find out that it isnt actually classed as detached , would i be able claim back money of the builder since it was described incorrectly .
Any thoughts on this would be great
thanks

"Access to neighbouring land act 1992" allows everyone access to their neighbours land for maintainance purposes.0

Detached means 'not attached to any other building'.................a carport, even a good one is not a building ,therefore your house is detached:beer:williams55 wrote:Thing is that it has a carport which actually is attached to the next door home via a large steel beam with the roof of the carport attached to both houses . my parent's house is 'linked' to their neighbour's on once side by a garage but according to my mum it is linked detached and acording to rightmove sold prices it is 'detached'.0

I think they call it 'link detached' in this case. Still it is pretty much detached in terms of privacy and noise.0

Here in London these kind of homes are called Link Detached & this is how ea's list them.
Provision will be made probably as a covenant on the deeds allowing access to adjoining property for maintenance & repair. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I'd agree with 'linked detached'2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0

once again link detached.my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0

houses round here that are linked by a garage with a room behind it are still called "linked detached". Some people have built above the garage and still claim to be "linked detached"!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
