Using a Credit Card Via Paypal for Ebay Purchases?

Options
I'm reasonable seasoned with Ebay and Paypants - however I used to have my credit card as the default payment setting for my ebay purchases made via Paypal.

This system has now altered and ebay/paypal automatically directs me to use a direct debit from my bank (which I don't want for obvious reasons). How/what are the paypal settings to revert the default payment setting back to a credit card - I can't for the life of me find them on the paypal site.

Thanks for any help.
I do hope you're telling the truth?

It's virtually impossible to stop it defaulting to your debit card.. unless you have a weird flukey thing going on like Soolin :)

I have a similar problem. When I joined it was easy to set-up a credit card payment, which I have and works perfectly. But I would like to change credict card. Paypal does not let me and when I try to fund it I end up always with the request to connect a bank account, which I don't want to do.

It seems strange that Paypal makes so difficult just to change your credit card!!!
  • Credit card = Possible charge backs
Which Paypal wants to avoid, although this is more for their sake than that of sellers/buyers.

Just make sure no funds in account. When purchsing something, click more funding options and select credit card. Paypal will always try and get you to use bank, and will always default back to this i think..........for very reasons of above post!

Trouble is... even when your paypal balance is at 0 (mine usually is) it will default to bank funding.

If you have credit in your account, it will not let you pay any way other than with the money in your account.

(You can get around this by sending it to a friend's account before paying, then getting them to refund you afterwards)

  • Paypal want you to use your bank account becuase they can do a direct debit request for the money and this is cheap for them. If they have to use your credit card they then get charged a percentage fee for doing this, although I expect they have got a good merchant rate, say 1.5% ( this is just a guess ) of the amount, whereas the direct debit will just cost them pennies.
Also there is the possibility that a charge back will occur if a credit card is used.

I had a similar problem. I recitfy it for each payment by changing the method to debit card each time I make a payment - it should work for you.

When you make a payment to payapl for an ebay auction, one of teh payment screens (the paypal one where you can change addresses etc) has a 'more funding options' link in the lower left, choose this and change the payment type.

But you'll need to do this for every payment until you can get it changed another way.

  • Can you not just remove your bank account and pay by debit/credit card?
This is what I have. However I registered with Paypal ages ago when you didn't need a bank account so I'm not sure if you can do this anymore.

I can't really do this as I also occasionally sell items and so need to be able to transfer funds out of the PP account to my bank.

It does irritate me, as very occassionally, if I've been in a hurry say, I've forgotten to switch the payment method.
