    Thanks for replying Malc.
There's no point contacting Hydro about this, it's a well known fact that they are very secretive about this (no longer offered to new customers) tariff. According to Scottish Power, Hydro won't give out any details about the tariff and so no one else can offer it or take over a house's electric "as is" Hydro have to remove both meters and some other gubbins (they were very vague) before letting another company in and as no one offers the same product if I want 24 hour heat then I have to stay.
When I saw your comment about Heatwise it made me hopeful that other companies offered the same thing, as since I moved in 9 years ago the prices have risen (of course), but the cheaper rate has risen at a much higher rate than the other and I would be interested to hear what sort of prices were charged for other similar products.
Please could you point me towards the price plan for Heatwise, Thanks.

No problem at all MrsBartolozzi, glad to help.

I would be happy to let you know our current Heatwise prices. If you would like to drop an email to the address in my Profile I will send them directly to you. :)

Just keep in mind, as I said yesterday, Heatwise is only available in the East Midland region.

Hi again folks. Bit of advice needed relating to what has been said previously. I am looking at changing suppliers as I find the storage heaters ineffective. They do not heat the house, however using another heat source (ie halogen heaters) has caused ridiculous bills due to the different rates of at eon, these being: Normal first units at 20.02p per kwh
Normal next units at 10.05p per kwh
Standing charge at 9.16p per day
    Boost at 13.04p per kwh
    Afternoon at 5.81p per kwh
    Night/evening at 5.81p per kwh
The last 3 are for the use of storage heaters etc. EDF have come up on uswitch saying they will do a standard rate of 6.98p per kwh with standing charge of £79.059 per year. Would this be better for our situation and what heating device would be more efficient and effective on this tarriff?
Any help would be well appreciated.

Halogan Heaters give out the same amount of heat as ordinary electric bar fire, convector fire,or fan assisted electric fire you get no more heat and the cost is at the same high rate An all electric house you must use storage heaters to save money

My point was that the storage heaters are no good and don't heat the flat. I know that using halogen heaters costs a lot because it runs off the standard rate of electricity but I was looking at other tarrifs that have a cheaper standard rate of electricity so we can be warm this winter. The storage heaters may be cheap but I would rather not freeze!

Have you set your storage heaters up properly? If wrongly adjusted you won't get the best out of them.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yes they have been set up using the advice given to us by our electricity provider. In all fairness it may not be totally due to the heaters it could be the rubbish windows and insuation etc but when we used another heating device it definitely heated the room, despite costing a lot to run!
