Test Drive

I went to see a car today at a private dealer. Strange thing was they didn't want me to test drive it. The lady said that I could only test drive it if in every other way I was totally happy with the car and agreed to the price advertised and I would buy it today subject to a satisfactory test drive. I said that I would only be willing to consider these other things after a test drive.
I thought it was very strange seeing as most of the time dealers are desperate for you to test drive the car. It all seemed very dodgy and got a bit heated and I left. What on earth was this about???

Depends really on the type of car. I deal cars and will not just let anyone jump in and be on their way for a quick blast. Reason for this is the fact that tyre kickers come out in force when you have just taken delivery of an Evo or the like and i dont have time to waste. If they come along prepared with the insurance docs etc then i may entertain them but the usual 3 lads wearing the caps dont really do it for me.

For a dealer to tell you that the only way you can test drive the car is if you agree to everything before you drive it is either mad, new or very very confident. Anyone not willing to let you test drive a car and make sure you are happy and comfortable with the car in your own time and without worrying about having to agree to everything beforehand does not deserve your business.
