There can't be a formal Tory LibDem coalition - Tories can't offer enough and even if they could Clegg would never get it past the "triple lock" in his party.

    An insight worthy of remembrance.

So the best the Tories can do is a minority. Why would Brown resign his minority administration in favour of a Tory minority administration?

Rochdale he came 2nd....He SHOULD do the moral thing a resign.....No iffs or buts, he was NEVER given a mandate by the electorate either 3 yrs ago when he was handed the job by Tony .Shouldn't even be entertaining the thought of carrying on.....

Enough of this smoke and mirrors bullsh1t get Pickfords round sharpish.....

And if we had an electoral system that didn't deliver spoof elections it'd be right. Lets be very clear - the Tories won the vote. But a national vote isn't the election under First Past the Post.

So, the Tories can't form a majority government. Labour are extant and can't form a majority government either. The make-up of the Commons is almost completely hostile to the Tories, but won't want to prop up Labour who clearly lost.

So, we get chaos until we get another election. Even if Brown resigns the government and Cam takes over, he'll not get half his programme through. He doesn't have enough votes.

Clown will be dragged kicking and screaming from No.10

I'm 100% serious that if Labour try and hang-on with squalid 'pledges' to Cleggover, I shall be pleased to rampage through the streets in a populist riot.

The whole thing shows what a sham our "democracy" and electoral system is.

Seeing as both democracy and the electoral system have just been shown at their absolute best, I'm flummoxed as to why you or anyone else can conclude it's a "sham".

Gordon Brown is constitutionally the Prime Minister of this country and is abiding by his constitutional duty to continue on whilst those who would seek to take his place are figuring out a way of transitioning to power.

Right now, a man who clearly loved being the master of all he surveyed must be hating every second of every minute of every hour, a weary unloved caretaker pottering around behind the curtains of Number 10, killing time.

The ignominy will be keenly felt. But he's been brave enough to hide it and dignified enough to go out into Downing Street and talk to the media in a measured and sensible manner.

Just to note - a Labour/Lib Dem coalition would still be a minority government.
