Hello:hello: (wasn't sure if this post was allowed...if not...oops
)
I wanted to tell you about a company I will be working for at the forthcoming Leeds festival. I also worked for them at last years Glastonbury festival.
They are called the workers beer company (http://www.workersbeer.co.uk/) and they work like this :
If you work for a charitable organisation or a fundraising group you can contact this company. They use individuals from your group to work in beer tents at festivals. You don't actually get paid, but the workers beer company "pay" your charitable organisation approx £5.90 per hour for each person who works. You also get free entry to the music event (I managed to see most of the main bands at Glasto last year as we only worked 6 hours each day). You also get free secure camping with showers :T (if applicable), free beers (:D ) and free food.
Last year our group did this and we made £1500 for our chosen charities - which we split between our UK regions equally. Plus we had amazing fun, met loads of really lovely people from all the other charities and last year I got to see Coldplay, James Blunt, the Killers, the white stripes, the Beautiful South, alabama 3, Van Morrison, Jools Holland, KT Tunstall and heaps more....and didn't pay a penny! Hopefully next week at Leeds I'll be lucky enough to have the night off when Pearl Jam are playing (keep your fingers crossed for me!).
Anyway, the link provides all the info you should need. it may be too late to sort this for this year now, but it'll give you time to find out if people are interested before next year.

Oxfam also require volunteers for the Reading and Leeds Festivals.
Too late for this year, but may be worth considering for next year.
See: http://www.meanfiddler.com/displayPage_reading.asp?ArticleID=2901&URLID=65
You need to pay a refundable deposit of £130 if you are accepted. This is the normal price of a weekender ticket and ensures that people don't just come for the free entrance - you get the money refunded after you've completed your 3 x 8-hour shifts. In return for the volunteers' work Oxfam will receive a £50,000 donation from the event organisers.
Paid stewards are also required for these events - the pay is around £5 per hour, but you will be expected to longer shifts and night duty.

Hi - This link isn't working at the moment. So sorry about that - it's not an incorrect link....it just appears to be down. Many thanks to DO_YOU_KNOW_DAVE for printing contact details. maybe if you e-mail or write to them they can send you printed info.
Well, I got back from Leeds festival on Monday night. And what a BRILLIANT time we all hadWe worked really hard and earned 20 (no of people in our charity team) x 3 (no of days we each worked) x 18 (no of hours we each worked) x £5.90 ish for our charity!!! And we had the bar opposite the main stage!!!! :T :T :T So, even when I was working I was listening to bands like the Kaiser chiefs, Flogging Molly and Franz Ferdinand. Got time off when Pearl Jam, Muse, Arctic Monkeys and Jet were on
. Got very drunk as all the punters took pity on us for being unpaid workers and made £20 in tips each!!!
Anyway, I can still thoroughly recommend this (as long as you're ready for some hard graft ... 6 or 7 deep at the bar all hours!). Get on it for next year
Edit - 20 x 3 x 18 x 5.9 = £6372 for charity :T0 -
Hi I am a official Organiser for a WBC Team and have ben involved with the WBC since 1989 !! the first time they had the Beer contract for Reading } and although its a great way to earn funds the official site is aimed at organisers rather than private individual's.
As I also helped out on Glastonbury Forums this was a very common question ' How do I join a WBC Team ? ' so I made up several pages at
http://www.wbc-team.co.uk/wbc-official-teams-1.html
which will help you contact a Team as I have a full list on the last page with web links.
Although we are in the Winter the time to join a Team is now as by the time the WBC season starts no new recruits can be taken on until 2010.
Please note as my Team is made up with most people with between ten and fifteen years experience ( not counting myself } my Team will not be taken on any new recruits for 2009/2010.0 -
Although its Christmas and the Music festival season appears a long way a way - anyone wishing to join a Team should do it now as its likely the 2009 new recruits deadline will be at the end of February 2009 !! it varies every year }
Once that deadline has passed no WBC Organiser can add new recruits until 2010 so its only a short window you have to find a Team .
Good luck
