You might get more responses on the moneysaving in families board or the celebrations board.

I have this problem every year with my Gran. I usually take her out for a nice meal and buy flowers and garden things (that's all she seems to need - her observation, not mine). Many older people don't get to travel much outside their local area - so maybe a trip to see a show (mine went to Riverdance a few years ago) or to visit an area she's not been for a while but has fond memories of?

    It's only a game

  • I would have suggested a calendar or similar with photos of the family - like you can get at photo sites, but not sure you'd have enough time. Otherwise what about making up a hamper with things you know she likes but maybe wouldn't buy for herself?

How about organising a family portrait to be taken in celebration of her birthday.

For anyone over 70 I only buy food stuff, like posh tins of biscuits, nice tea etc.

I agreee with Barneysmom - make up a little hamper of foodie treats. Normally goes down well and it can work out reasonably cheap - especially if you've already got a little basket hanging around the place.

Hope she has a nice birthday whatever you get her.

To tell you the truth they hate that !!!! and just leave it to gather dust better off with a season ticket to Kew Gardens or a National Trust pass.

I got my Dad a cup with his name on and instructions on how he likes his tea but I can't remember where from now! It was a website. It does take a couple of weeks for them to send it though. I recently bought some bulbs for the garden and some seeds, plantpots and compost for my Mam.
