money exchange Australia

I am due to go to Australia and want to make two payments for rented accommodation the deposit and later in the year the balance.
I have been to my bank and they inform me that there is a charge of £24 for each transaction for the bank to move money from my current account and pay this into the property owners account in Australia. Also they cannot tell me if I will be charged anything by the Australian bank.
Does anybody know of any way of making this payment by cheaper means.

  • thank you for your response.

I can pay by credit card but was a bit reluctant to send details of card etc via e-mail.
The accommodation is not a chain or group of hotels, it is a private landlord.
I think I may have no alterntive though.
    thanks again.
  • Perhaps you could phone the landlord and give credit card details over the phone, I had to do this when I travelled to Australia a few years ago as I refused to send details via email, even though everything else was arranged through email. At least if it is paid through credit card you have some sort of come back if there are any problems, money transfering can be a bit dodgy. Hope that is of some help...

I had to phone Sydney this year to give my card details for accommodation as it isn't safe via email...I used https://www.1899.com for cheap calls too ;)
