Best area to live in Central London?

if you want your own place, if you are lucky you can get some decent modern studios in Surrey Quays for around 650 a month and around 700-750 for a one bed. Zone 2 and great for transport. Not a glamorous location but safe and some good amenities.0

bloomsbury is cheaper than it ought to be, so it's certainly worth looking round there. There are some nice pockets just over the other side of the river in Waterloo/Lambeth.0

bethnal green though not walking distance. I did used to walk bow to holborn alot but thats zone 3.
London Bridge?0 -
There's about a billion places people could suggest as you can get to a lot of places from Holborn easily. As stated for that budget you won't get anything other than a share, or a studio if you are prepared to either go to a slightly unpleasant area or outside of zone 1 and probably 2 also.
Would be great if you can give us more info on what your priorities might be.0 -
I dont know if this has already been answered but ive always been curious by what defines you as central london.
When people ask me where i live I say london as its my address Se2 but i'm not central right?
I'd say Central London was the EC and WC postcodes.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Zone 1 travel is £100 a month. Zone 4 is £140 a month.
I used to live in Angel N1 but when I came back I went north on the overground railway and am 30 minutes from Liverpool Street for the City and I have a good 2 bed place for £900 a month. The same in Angel would be £1500-2000. For sure, Angel is a nicer place to live but beggars cannot be choosers so to speak.
I know that people in Angel, who live where I used to have a place, at Angel on the Green, Islington, sometimes rent out a room in their flat. I heard around £200 a week the last time I heard. Post code is N1 2TP just on the corner of Upper Street and Essex Road, above the Esporta gym.
It would be a good flat share around Upper Street but too expensive for you to consider alone. Buses to Holborn are every few minutes and it takes about 15 minutes, perhaps a little longer in the rush hour. Great place to live but horrendously expensive to buy. Decent 2 bed flat £500,000 plus.0 -
Look at gumtree.com. It has a fantastic clickable map with houses/flats and roomshares for rent on a searchable map view.0

Mile End (Zone 2) is up and coming and is less than half an hour away by tube, or a straightforward cycle ride. And if ever there's a tube strike or major snow it's very walkable from there. There are nice parks there (Victoria Park and Mile End Park), a canal, lots of shops and a cheap gym.0

I lived in a flatshare near Lambeth North tube, very close to Waterloo, for a few months and it cost me about £700 per month inc. bills. It was about a 20 minute walk to Covent Garden/Holborn.0
