Shower partition using glass blocks

Hi,
I am installing a new shower unit and 3 sides of the shower are tiled walls. For the 4th side, the plumber suggested getting a glass partition. Apparently you can get a ready-made glass partition.
But I was thinking if I could create a partition with glass blocks. Something like this: http://www.simplyglassblocks.co.uk/index.html
Would this work? Will it be water-resistant or will the water get into the space between the cubes?
Can someone give me some suggestions please?
Thanks in advance

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

Providing the correct cements were used, then yes, it would be water resistant. Your biggest problem with glass blocks (aside from the fact that once you buy everything you need, it tends to cost a packet), is the weight of them. I was advised by an architect when I mentioned glass blocks that you either need to be on ground floor with concrete beneath or you need to strengthen the floor before installing them. Needless to say, I didn't get glass bricks in the end.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

Thankfully I live on the ground floor and with concrete floors. Finally one good thing about concrete floors...Softstuff wrote:Providing the correct cements were used, then yes, it would be water resistant.
Apparently they use Silicone Spacers and then you fill them with Silicon or some wide grout joint. Is that ok?The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket. :rolleyes:0 -

If three sides are tiled, and the fourth is glass blocks, how are you going to get in and out of the shower?!
or have I missed something, lol?

I've built a few of these over the years always bought from this company:-

I strongly suggest you use the rod and mortar system for what you intend. however on the inside face that is subjet to water use Ardex C2 wide joint white grout instead of the supplied cement, it's a far higher specification for water resistance.
It looks very effective, although like the above poster I'm curious how you'll get in and out if there are four solid walls:huh:0 -
like softstuff says - glass is be heavy
very likely to need floor strengthened0 -
The fourth glass block side only partially covers the entrance. I didnt want to put a door in and also feel enclosed.
I wasn't planning on learning any magic tricks to get in and outThe quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket. :rolleyes:0
