Managed to find some reviews on the Nikon, I reckon some of the reviewers are a tad savvy. I think people should bear in mind your not buying a 2000 pound camera, your buying a cheap n chearfull slip in your pocket, point and shoot. For big bucks I think you would be silly not to go for Canon, Nikon, Olympus etc. Anyway those reviews for the Nikon 4600:
batteries exhausted - blurry pictures (8/8/2006)
very disappointing experience from such a recognised brand
what troubles most is that despite many people complaining the average review still shows an acceptable rating, which in itself is deceitful
This on is not worth the money ever, bewarned don't buy this camera
it was great when it worked (6/19/2006)
It was a pretty good camera when it worked. It was my first camera. But after a few months of use, the lens mechanism broke.
Battery life terrible! (6/19/2006)
I have taken a lot of pics in 3 months and when I started out the battery life was fair at best. Now I cannot get in more than 5 pics and it dies. There is something wrong with this camera. You will experience sooner or later.
pretty bad (6/19/2006)
i don't really like this camera. every time i take a picture without flash, IT's ALWAYS BLURY! when i take to weddings or vacations, i get very frustrated with it. within 2 months of buying this camera i wanted a new one. this camera has problems in low light.i suggest you get another camera.
Liked it dropped it getting another (4/7/2006)
I really like this camera, I own a 8mp larger Nikon and it takes wonderful pix so when I went looking for a camera to take everywhere I stuck with Nikon and I'm happy I did. Sadly I dropped the camera and broke it but I'm going to replace it with the same model. Great for the price. Picture quality is excellent. It does take a long time to recover from a flash and it does eat batteries but it is compact easy to use and very inexpensive.
Lens error with little use (3/24/2006)
I used this camera only occasionally, certainly less than 100 times. It was never abused and looks like the day it was taken out of its box. Today I learned that it must go back for repair due to "lens error." Google on CoolPix lens error and read for yourself.
It was inferior to my 2MP Canon PowerShot when taking inside portraits despite a myriad of menu options. I am going back to Canon products and will never buy Nikon junk again.
Obviously Nikon cameras on the whole are excellent, but I think you need to be carefull at their ' bottom end ', most people seem let down by battery life on the 4600 and if you type into Google Nikon 4600 lens error you will be more than dissapointed !!!!!!!!!0 -

I bought the Nikon yesterday. A quick search online showed that only Bath & Tiverton in my area had any stock. Luckily I was due to go near Tiverton in the afternoon so I picked up the camera. Initial impressions are that it fits the bill perfectly for a cheap AA-powered camera that I can keep in the panniers of my motorcycle and not have to worry too much if it gets lost/broken.

Have also bought a case for the Nikon 4600 £8.99 and rechargable batteries Ni Mh £3.79 and charger £3.99 in the clearance at the 7 day shop. These should last longer.
