Nice Digital Camera for 65 quid (Delivered)

A Praktica DCZ 4.4, I ordered it yesterday and it arrived this morning, fits in the palm of your hand, and it appears an excellent piece of kit.

I wanted to buy a cheap/basic digicam for the odd time I might use 1. Would anyone else recommend this cam or another at a similar price? :j

I've just bought a Nikon Coolpix 4600 from Argos at the clearance price of £64. Only available for store pick up. Previously £129 - cat no. 560/2135. Check online where it is on stock because there are only a few left. I got the last one in my region. The reviews are good for a first camera.

The Nikon L4 is still available from at Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk at £73.50 (someone on this board has already told us about that)

Cheers - just reserved last one in Sheffield!

Thanks. Which would you both say is the better camera. The 1 you suggest or the 1 in the original post?

The Nikon 4600 is much better than the praktica ( the pictures will be consistantly better especially in difficult lighting situations).
With digital cameras the respected camera brands are usually much better than the cheaper brands or the "badge engineers" ( such as Praktica - who stick their badge on a cheap generic product).

The 4600 is better than the L4 and cheaper ( assuming your local argos has stock).

    Nikon vs Praktika

I agree with some of above but the Praktika is competent and it does record movies at 640x480 at 24fps with sound - a big bonus.

Nikon not good in artificial light IMHO - not sure about the Praktika...

Check user reviews for a balance of opinion...

On test today and took some low level light pictures and they are fine, video is very handy. Funnily enough I managed to locate one of the half price Nikons, took some time, but after reading some of the reviews on the Nikon, I went for the Praktica and am glad I did.

When I bought this yesterday, the Argos online store said it was the last one. When I got to the store there were several still available. If anyone is still after this there may be some available.

It doesn't seem a bad camera for under £65. We're happy anyway.

Ask anyone savvy ( who hasn't just bought the Praktica) and they will tell you - buy the Nikon.. The Nikon 4600 is well reviewed. The praktica has no professional reviews
Proper camera companies spend lots of money on developing advanced exposure algorithms , improving optics etc . The praktica is a generic product ( not from a well respected camera manufacturer).

I doubt you would be dissapointed with any of them, but in a side by side test of photos of the same subject the Nikon would win.
