£8 Min wage? No problem...I will just have to charge more for the end product ......but people won't mind as they will be earning more...min wage pushes up all other wages so everything layers above it pro rata.

    This.

But doesn't this just put us back where we started bu the numbers are different? As the grades higher than minimum would have to rise too, does this risk increasing gap between higher and lower earners?

Minimum wage has been such a double edged sword in some industries, and recent changes to employment law over training wages/working pupils, are, as I understand it threatening more problems. In cases I know of people have simply had to let people go and work harder themselves, or change business...(e.g.in horses, there is a more common option now of ''Assisted D.IY. Livery/part livery, where the horse owner does some of the work and livery yard some...) where full livery used to be offered. It also means a lot of people work/amploy cash in hand there fore both not securing decent wage/packages for themselves and allowing defrauding of the benefit system. Also common is recruiting people on a ''self employed'' basis, still ''under paying'' them on a £ per hour basis if you worked it out, but srt of within the law. For the self employed this can be rewarding, or it can been they are dealing with complications they do not want from their employment. (paper work, insurances etc)

I don't know what the answer is. I'm looking at potential ways to tide myself over, and one would involve having at least part time ''help''. I can't see, from the back of envelope how I can do this as an employer rather than offering a contract. It is not in my nature to circumnavigate the law, nor to offer poor quality of employment, or poor quality of service to those who I'm charging. The cheaper employment options result in higher insurance options......

Greens aren't in the real world. They don't want you to live. It'll be taxes on breathing if they get their way.

You see, breathing is an issue (mewbie would have got that) but the answer for greens and sustainably would be to tax ''sleeping'' instead.

    Q. How do you think the 'new government' (or whatever it will end up being) will plug the shortfall in tax reciepts to start paying back the national debt? How can they raise taxes hoping they won't upset people?

    A. Dress most of them up as green taxes. The sheeple will not complain about that. Just claim the world will end if we don't reduce CO2 emissions and tax people accordingly.

I predict this to happen and it will be council tax based on C02 from homes, more motoring taxes, increased fuel duty, pay per mile, VED increase, Airport Passenger Duty increase, Car insurance levy increase or whatever else they can dream up. You name it. If it moves and/or emits Co2 - TAX IT!

BUT intelligent people see through it all and there will be a revolt! You heard it here first.

Oooops glibness in tone doesn't type well..what I meant was all those in favour of an £8 min wage must also be prepared to pay more for goods and services as the extra cost will layer on top........and it would be very unfair play to then start buying goods made abroad due to cheaper labour costs. As if :)

Honestly.......now I am embracing corporatism for a short period whilst I get the ££ together for my charity.............I would make more in Turkey rather than in UK as £8 min wage would add about £10 onto the retail price of my standard product.

I am still feeling very proud of being Brightonain at the mo though.:o
