I think 7-10 is quite a reasonable time to vote. I would certainly never leave it until anywhere near the 10pm slot - it's called being organised. Typical that people are slating the system when it's quite simple - vote before 10pm - everyone knew the times.

The people effected are probably those that turn up for the 7pm train at 6.55 - sometimes you miss it, sometimes you get it - easy to ensure you get it!!

Well, what is particularly bad is there is one constituancy where over 600 people registered to vote within the deadline, but were not allowed to, because the voting lists were not updated properly.

I would agree with many of the sentiments expressed here. I would however point to the person who said there was a queue at 6pm so went away to come back later when the queue had subsided. She did this twice until after 9pm she realised she would just have to wait in line. Result - she didn't get to vote.

Clearly there were insufficient polling staff and booths after 6pm when many would be voting after work. I don't think it was just because many were watching Corrie. In fact I would say that if watching Corrie came ahead of voting then you shouldn't be allowed to vote anyway. :)

re voting time, I agree, people should be organised, but there are people who work night shifts, possible hitting bed shortly before polls open..... I would have found it hard on the wrong day during the brief time I worked a night shift....

What is it with these idiots (not you, the whining voters), they know the time the polls open and close yet they turn up at the last minute then whine about it.

They only have themselves to blame.

    They disenfranchised themselves.

People in polling stations near me turned up at 7pm to be told to come back in an hour as they had run out of ballot slips.
People turned up just after 9pm at other stations who had also ran out, by which time it was too late to get any more.

Disenfranchised themselves - what a load of !!!!!!.

Agree. Equally the voting stations should have been organised, and they obviously weren't.

You don't have to be einstein to understand the peak voting periods are before and after standard working hours, say before 8 a.m. and after 7 p.m. This is both obvious and historically true. But no ........ it's apparently a complete surprise !

I have no sympathy for the students, they should have got out of their lazy beds sooner, not to mention the fact that many appear to have turned up without polling cards.
In other parts of the world people queue for days under threat of violence to ensure they vote, but some in this country couldn't stand in a queue at 6pm for a hour or 2? Some even expected sympathy for standing in the rain for a bit (under a brolly most of them lol).

15 hours to vote plus the postal option? I think it was the voters responsibility to be a bit more organised, although it does sound as though some polling stations needed better organisation-no excuse for running out of ballots papers.

If a shop opens 7 a.m. till 10 p.m. I don't expect to turn up at eight in the evening to be told they've had a rush on, run out of change, half the staff have gone home and no-one feels like serving me while they're busy cashing up early. If the hours are till ten you should be able to turn up at 9.50 p.m. and vote. Otherwise don't bloody say it's till ten.

    BTW I voted at around 11 a.m.

So the rules should be ...........We know we said 10pm , but turn up extra early because we might run out of ballot papers , and we are short staffed / cant be arsed today so expect queues?

Circumstances have dictated to me that I have never voted after about 4pm, however if I turned up at 9pm and couldn't get to cote I'd turn the air blue!

Vote by post then, that way you never need to worry about what time polls are open. :T:grouphug::wall::drool::cheesy:
