Does anyone know if this is possible to enable the use of a rear facing baby seat?

The car is a 2001 VW Polo.

Thanks

We have a '98 and was told it has to be done by a VW dealership as we wanted to put the carseat in the front.

I got quoted for our 2003 golf, VW said £105+VAT.

I would think a polo would be much the same.

May have gone up as this was a approx 5 years ago.

The consensus at VWVortex is to place a four-ohm resistor on the airbag wire, taking the place of the airbag. The resistance of the airbag is 3.3-ohms... four is close enough. I'm about to remove my passenger airbag to install an larger glovebox from the '94 Jetta. My airbag is disabled via VAG-COM for my daughther anyway. So I'm not out much by removing it altogether. smile.gif

Safety precautions for anyone looking to muck with airbags: 1) Always disconnect the battery before messing with airbag connections; 2) DO NOT measure the airbag resistance to confirm the 3.3-ohms mentioned above. The voltage from the multimeter could set off the airbag. I don't know how 3.3-ohms was concluded. But they say a 4-ohm resistor prevents the airbag light. I'll trust that for safety's sake. I'll know more soon.

I have a Golf Plus, I just assumed there was a keyhole in the glovebox as there was in my Seat Altea, typical VW charging for thibgs you get free with other brands.

Think the key is standard now on most VAG cars, but 9 years ago that was not the case. I had the airbag in my A4 disabled for about 40 quid by the dealer - that was 6 or 7 years ago - think they told me they had to change a wiring harness and it was a 20 minute job

Get onto a VAG forum and look for someone near you who has VCDS (Vag-Com). If they know what they're doing they should be able to sort it for you in just a few minutes and for just a few beer tokens.
