Tonight I parked at the side of a normal road, went into cast my vote
came out and stood on the pavement while a bliddy great tractor with a wider drilling machine attached, tried to
get through the gap between my car and the white car which was parked on the opposite side of the road to mine but up a bit. He was inching through, concentrating on missing the white car, he then got through and set off up the road. I dont suppose he even realised he had hit mine. Two people were crossing the road and gesturing me and saying have a look at your car, hes scuffed it. He had also screwed my wing mirror back but that isnt broken, I only saw a little scuff at that point, so anyway the tractor was still in sight so i got him to stop further up the road.
He came back to my car and the scuff on the paintwork was visible then i noticed that he had scraped it right down to the metal over the wheel arch.
He sid he didnt know how that happened, i said it was because he was sqeezing through a too small gap, he went back to his tractor to see what might have scraped it, and came back saying it must have been ....whatever, i didnt catch it.
What do you want to do. I told him i just want it back to what it was.
He said it should just polish out - ha, not when its down to the metal,
I said the only thing to do was for me to take it down to the main dealer i had bought it from 6 months ago. My adult daughter was in the car at this point
Anyway, he said to take it down there, to see if it will polish out and we'll take it from there.
He gave me his mobile number and his address, apart from taking it to the bodyshop is there anything else I can do to safeguard myself. Or just wait and see.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

you could present him with a quote to repair or you could pass his details to your insurance company.
the latter is probably better imo

I was hoping if i got a quote and it was less than his ins. excess we wold be able to do it without involving insurance company.
    Would that not be okay.
I worry that my premiums would go up even if i made a no fault claim.

You have to declare all incidents to the insurers even if you don't claim - you're probably better off claiming off him.

Having said that, you weren't parked illegally were you? If you were, the insurer might just argue you were causing an obstuction and you may not get a no-fault payout.

No, not parked illegally, just at the side of the road normally, no obstruction, cars park there normally to go to the shops. More cars were parked than normal because of the polling station but more than enough room for cars and vans to get through with no troublebut the tractor man shouldnt have even attempted to get through in my opinion.

We have to guess who you voted for now. As you aren't among the most well off (wanting to avoid insurance price rise and excess) it's a fair bet you didn't vote Labour :D

(and just a point of interest, which i have just remembered, i have no excess, it was just a few pounds extra per year for this, well worth the money)

I voted for the man who gave me a bus pass which i make good use of even though i have a car, its brilliant.

    I dont want the Euro
I dont like David Cameron, hes smarmy

Now who do you think i voted for.:D

You may not have parked illegally but between you and the car opposite you were causing an obstruction if he couldnt get through unless of course it was an abnormally wide load.

Please about who you voted for though:)

But the car opposite wasnt there when i went in, cars were coming and going all the time, it was polling day.

It was a tractor (a big one) with a seed drill on the back, wider than the tractor.
    Thanks for your input.
