Sky saying Jacqui Smith has lost to the Conservatives in Redditch.

I'm not happy about what this election is going to mean for the future, but the look on Wacky Jacqui's face may have just made it all worthwhile.

Happy to see Charles Clarke fall too.

(crosses fingers) Camberwell and Peckham yet to declare...

Welll I am back for more, ok for 10 minutes more before the school run starts....going back to my comment about being the sort of person who will think of all eventualities (re getting to the polling station and leaving plenty of time), as an illustration, I have two alarm clocks....for in case one fails to go off.

This morning, one failed to go off but my back up one went off!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Morning all! Just catching up with the news. fc must be thrilled that her Green MP got in, sorry to hear your news lir re the not so good lib dem. I thought my local MP would have a close run against the Lib Dems, but as it happened he polled more votes than pretty much everyone else put together.

Still feeling desperately sad for the Lib Dems not getting as many MPs as they deserve. Electoral reform must happen now - whoever gets in. Hearing scary things about the markets though. A rollercoaster day ahead methinks.

Eamonn Holmes now talking to head of Electoral Commission, Jenny Watson. She is saying that the only people who can make decisions about staffing in their areas are the returning officers.

She is saying they want to hear from voters about their experiences and expected returning officers to be aware that there was a turnout issue and that more people should be allocated into the polling stations where the queues were long but they failed to do this. Anyone who didn't get to vote can e-mail them their experiences. Said they have been pushing for change for years but neither government nor parliament listened.

Eamonn Holmes made the point that they'd appealed to the iPod generation to vote and when they turned out to vote for the first time they were there with a load of doddery old people and found pencils attached to pieces of string! He's one of those that queued and didn't get to vote.

Jenny Watson: I hope we can work with Parliament and Government to ensure that this will never happen again.

Sky News reporting that staffing put in place was the same for the European elections, which has much lower turnout.

A question for misskool: how did the betting change over the process? Did watching that side of things give any advance notice of what happened later on?
