faulty top but no receipt?

My son bought a nike training top from a sportsdirect shop but didn't keep the receipt. The stitching has come apart and is fit for the bin after only 3 weeks. Does anyone know if he is entitled to an exchange with the receipt because it is faulty? He has no way of proving it came from the shop unfortunately.

Without proof of purchase unless Sports Direct are exclusive suppliers they are quite within their rights not to refund/replace unfortunately.
Chances are they aren't exclusive. So they are unlikely to replace. You could always ask though. I had a similar problem -son bought expensive tat from sports shop *rollseyes* and as they were not the only retailer who sold that label they wouldn't refund/replace despite CLEAR faults. Hopefully they will learn to keep the receipts...

However is might well be worth finding the bag ;) and taking it back and asking nicely...you may strike lucky!

How did he pay for it? Was it with a card by any chance? Because a print out of his bank statement would count as proof.

Thanks for your replies - no he didn't keep anything this time, and paid cash with his birthday money so no proof at all. Oh well, if they say no at the shop then he'll just have to chalk it up to experience and not make the same mistake again.
