the clutch in our car is on its way out.
our mechanic has said it would be cheaper for us to go to Mr Clutch than use him.
has anyone used Mr Clutch? are they fair? only theyve estimated over the phone 300-400 quid.

There's someone in my head, but it's not me

It all depends on the car. On my 1993 Rover 214 my local garage fitted a new clutch (from memory) for about 180 quid, and that was higher than expected because one of the drive shafts was difficult to remove due to corrosion. Get some more quotes from independent garages (not main dealers!).

Hello Anthillmob
I'll move your thread to the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board, where it should get more views and responses.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Depends on the car, but having said that you will always be able to beat Mr Clutch.
I had a front wheel drive clutch replaced for 100 labour at a back street garage, the clutch kit cost about 40 - 50 (can't actually remember). Rear wheel drive clutches are easier quicker and cheaper on labour.0 -
Mr Clutch have a poor reputation, although i think they are a franchise so service may vary. I would stay well away and pay a bit extra to someone else to do a good job.
Here is an e.g. of a Mr clutch story
