Homebase in Bath has loads of seed spuds reduced to £1 for a 2kg bag, am gutted as they have the varities I ordered before Christmas and paid over £3 for. They have long pale chits so these would need to be rubbed off and hopefully get them in a light area for a week or two, to get the healthy smaller green chits started.

Not much use to you Manchestersaver, but might be handy to someone more local.

are they still ok to plant now or is it too late?
    :money:
  • I've planted up seed potatoes and also stuck some of my shop bought ones in (maris pipers). They're all cropping so will wait and see. Got mine from 99p shop!

Hope this week is ok as I've been waiting for ages for my builder mate to dig out tree and old dead shrub roots for me.

ok so when the green leaves start showing/ popping up thru the soil, i know you have to cover them with soil but do you compact the soil/pat it down or do you just put the soil on and leave it ? the reason i ask is i have put soil on my potatos and they keep poking thru nearly evey 3 days or so? is this right?

    thanks

AFAIK you shouldn't be trying to cover up all the leaves etc! The plant needs them to be in the daylight. The idea is to build up soil around the stem. It doesn't matter if you cover a few leaves while doing this but you're not trying to bury the whole plant right to the top!
