hey guys,
I bought a laptop 18 months ago and the laptop charger has now packed in, Currys have informed me that the charger is not covered under any kind of guarantee, sale of goods act or any type of EU law.
I was just wondering if anyone knew where I stand with this? AM in the middle of my university exams and now have no charger for my laptop!
Thanks
Scott

Chargers are sometimes seen as consumables, but I don't really agree with that. You'd need to get in contact with the main customer service centre to get anywhere; stores don't have enough power to be able to do anything out of warranty.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
It IS covered under the Sales of Goods Act, however at this stage it would be up to you to prove that the charger was inherently faulty, which might be pretty difficult to do.
As Esqui says, it's always worth writing a letter to the head office, sometimes they can be quite obliging. I wouldn't claim or threaten anything at this stage, just state how you're disappointed with the quality and service of the goods, etc.0 -
My charger went a couple of weeks ago. I just ordered another from the Dell site.
There were two power supply options - £23 and £35.
Not bothered, ordered the cheaper unit (MSE and all that) and they sent the dearer unit anyway.... within three days.
Just that if you need your laptop now claiming etc could drag things out for weeks/months/years....0
