Download Flash/Youtube videos as files(instead of just watching them)
http://www.zillatube.com/
or
http://www.flashvideodownloader.org/fvd-suite/
Both 12Mb, they convert files from Flash .flv to say other formats like .avi, .mpg, mp3.
Click <EMBED> in the youtube page. Or in your browser if you click the View menu, View document source. This lets you see the page's html code, where you can get the youtube links. Do Control-F to search the page for text next to the video.
To test it try
https://www.youtube.com/v/otZR3VTh4Vo&hl=en_US&fs=1&
2Mb, showing a small tornado which 20 seconds later becomes a giant!!!! Best seen at 150% full size. Click the 'Refresh' button in the file manager to see how much has been downloaded.
(More tornado videos at http://forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?nav=messages&web!!!!!ab-weather&tid=434 ).
In Linux:
http://www.hermann-uwe.de/blog/download-videos-from-youtube-google-video-and-others-using-linux
lists websites that have the videos in .flv format(like https://www.pwnyoutube.com & https://www.vidmaza.com) & software to download youtube files.
http://yourtubedownloader.awardspace.com 100Kb.
This software can download youtube files & can also convert the file from Flash .flv to .mpg or .wmv which is Microsoft Windows media format. To install it, uncompress it into a folder first.
bookmark the folder it's in. That way you can get to it quickly.
change its file name from "YourTube-downloader" to say "y".
Go online & then run it by typing ./y at a terminal.
It will give error messages which you can ignore. It downloads the file to the folder that has the "y" folder, then once finished moves it to the folder you selected. It can't resume downloads. The software needs java. To find out if you have java you can use Openoffice, click the Tools menu, Options, Openoffice.org, java.
To convert YouTube movies from FLV to MPG or .wmv on Linux you can also use ffmpeg like this in the terminal:
ffmpeg -i old-file.flv new-file.mpg
The method to rip MP3 audio from FLV files is to use mplayer:
mplayer -dumpaudio old-file.flv -dumpfile new-file.mp3
