Private Feedback - Why?

I want to buy a memory card & looked on eBay. The seller who seems to have some good prices / products has private feedback & it makes me uncomfortable.

He has 1431 feedback with 98.8% positivebut in the past month he has had 16 negs and 9 neutrals (and 677 positive)

Why do sellers make their feedback private? All the information in the listing implies that it is all above board and that he will refund the item within 14 days for any reason but I am still unsure.

On the other hand, I have come accross this before when people have left negs because items took a while to be delivered or when the items have been posted from overseas rather than the UK as listed. If this is the case then it probably wouldnt bother me & I would still buy.

Do you think I should not worry about it? Do you think it is OK to email him and ask him why he has received so many negs or why he has private feedback?

Seller is '24memorysupplier' if that helps at all.

I would like to know what a few others think please. Thanks.

That's a low level of positive feedback - I wouldn't touch any of his auctions.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

Seller has been on ebay for 1 year and 7 months and has the following feedback over the last 12 months, out of the 20 neg's they have gained 16 of them within the past month so something has gone wrong maybe late delivery of goods or transactions not completed

    Positive feedback - 1608
    Neutral feedback - 17
    Negative feedback - 20

Why not email the seller and tell them your considering of buying from them but are wary of the negative feedback attained recently or just try and find another seller
  • I must say that I would not deal with this type of seller who keeps his feedback private - the only time i think this is acceptable is maybe with some of the sellers who deal in condoms/fancy underwear or other items that buyers might not wish to be known by others that they had bought .
Keep seaching for a more honest & open seller
  • I must admit I have already emailed them & asked them why they keep their feedback private and also told them I am a little concerned with the number of negs and asked him if there if something specific that their customers have complained about.

    Havent had a reply though.

    private feedback often assists scammers!!

simple really, you can't see WHY someone left bad feedback, so naive people take someone's word for it

  • Heres something for you to try......at the top right of the ebay, just under the search box there is an advanced search option. Click on that and then select 'items by seller' from the left hand column. Type in the userame of the seller and tick the box for it to include completed listings in the last 30days. Search on that and from results click 'view sellers items' beside the exact match to the user id you entered.
This will tell you what they have sold, and who the highest bidder was. You can then click through the higest bidder to their feedback and hopefully see the feedback comments in the 'left for others' section for the item sold by the seller.........I can't think of anyone I dealt with recently with private feedback but fingers crossed that it works!

  • Thanks - I had a quick look that way - how clever I would have never thought of that - takes ages though. There were a couple of comments about the items not being genuine & taking ages to be delivered.

I think I will find another seller.

Will be interesting to see whether he actually replies to my email though wont it...
  • Glad it worked! Wasnt sure if it would or not when they are private feedback folk. Good luck in finding a seller that you are happy with and hopefully a fantastic bargain product!!!

Folks .. I use 'private feedback' as I don't want to give up my 100% positive feedback, but at the same time I don't want my ex finding out about my transactions on eBay because even if you change your user name you can still be found from your previous names.

Plus I aren't a scammer hehe so I am confident I am a good guy ! I don't think it has affected my sales at all as I have sold some high value items recently, but of course take the time to accurately describe my items etc
