I had a similar situation with a laptop that developed a problem after 18 months.

I wrote to Comet H/O quoting the Sale of Goods Act (that goods must be of durable quality, be fit for purpose and last a reasonable amount of time), and they sent an engineer round to look at it, he agreed it was faulty, so they ordered in a new part and about 10 days later they fixed it.

You maybe need to ring Comet Customer Services or write to H/O, explaining the situation.

Legally though, they can ask you to obtain an engineer's report to confirm that the item is inherently faulty and not damaged through neglect etc, as after the first 6 months it is up to the CONSUMER to prove it is inherently faulty.

Take those first steps then let us know how you get on!

    Firstly:
Read this very carefully and understand it. It is a very good explanation of where a retailer AND the customers stand.
    http://www.bis.gov.uk/files/file25486.pdf

    Secondly:
Go back to the retailer and explain the problem and see what his response is. Be polite, do not start "quoting" things at him.

    Thirdly:
Read (1) again and compare with retailer's response. Decide on the balance of probabilities what your next step should be.

    Fourthly:
DO NOT believe half the rubbish you read on this site about The Sale of Goods Act. Before you quote anything - VERIFY it against a .gov.uk website.

    Finally:
You must UNDERSTAND what the Law says, NOT what people who have read something in the Daily Wail say it says !!!!

I agree with Olliesdad, due to samsungs exceptional service on a TV 2yrs old with a fault about 4yrs ago I now only buy samsung if possible.
Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.

My 2yo Samsung also recently died, rather than wait for an engineer to come and fix it I used the instructions on this link

As I am quite competant at soldering it only cost me £2ish for 5 new capacitors and was fixed within 24hrs of the fault occuring rather than waiting for an engineer or arguing with Samsung / Makro (my original place of purchase) for a couple of weeks.

    EDIT:

If it is the clicking issue, the website above had the following information

I have just spoke with Samsung and after mentioning the word ‘CLICKING’ the customer service guy went into the following spiel, “Samsung are currently investigating issues with ‘clicking’ on some of their TV’s, in the mean time we are offering a FREE OF CHARGE repair service.”

If you have a TV over 37″ they will come to your house and repair, under that you have to take it to an autorised repair centre. The guy said they should be with me within 3 working days. The number to call is 01932 454358, found this number rather than calling a premium rate one!
