If you run the Secunia scanner it will check if you have all the latest updates/patches on your computer............

My advice would be to believe Secunia and install the latest versions of those two.
Better yet uninstall Acrobat Reader and install Foxit pdf reader instead as just about every Acrobat reader that comes along gets found to have a vulnerability - I think it's a tradition.0 -
Thanks, kwikbreaks.:T
You have reminded me that I already have foxit reader (from cnet) bookmarked to download - gleaned from posts on this excellent forum:D
To uninstall Acrobat Reader, do I need a special link? or can I just go to Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall etc?
With regards to Flash Player. Would I be better uninstalling this one too? (I don't really understand about the ActiveX Control caution as mentioned previously)
Thanks:)0 -
You can also download Secunia PSI to your pc and set it to scan at regular intervals.
Another good programme checker is FileHippo Update Checker0 -
Update: I've now uninstalled Adobe Reader and Flash Player. I will be downloading Foxit pdf reader instead.
Quick query: I was getting Java update reminders a couple of days ago (before I got round to doing it) and around the same time the User Account Control emblem (blue and yellow shield) appeared on top of the Malwarebytes Icon on my desktop?
I've been into the UAC settings to look at them (can't remember if it was before or after this happened) but didn't alter anything.
I've ran a couple of malware quick scans and an Avast scan without finding anything.
Any suggestions, please?0 -

Any suggestions, please?, it will be because Java Update needs admin settings to update, but it seems you were ready for it to do so I guess you said allow. If you are expecting an update then it is normal to say yes , mind you I am confused that you say it's on top of the malwarebytes icon, mwb does not run til you ask it to unless you have the pro version. Glad you are still enjoying with you new setup.

As an aside, I've always used Foxit as a reader, but have recently been trying PDF-XChange Viewer
I'd say it does more than Foxit, and the font seems clearer.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Hi DCM - do you realise it takes you longer to type '6 extra letters on username' :rotfl::rotfl: which is why I call you DCM:D Good to hear from you again:)
Yes, I did say allow to the java update (I did however check it out first with the secunia link from fiddiweb).
No, I don't have the pro version of mwb. I just run the scans regularly. It may be a coincidence that the UAC emblem attached to the mwb icon around the same time. I'm just puzzled as to WHY it is on there and how do I get rid of it? But then, most things to do with computers confound my untechie brain:eek:
Yes, I'm still, mainly, enjoying my new comp, thanks.:T0 -

Also right click on blank space on wallpaper/desktop and select sort by name see if it moves to its own little space. The desktop Icons move around but the UAC emblem still stays on top of the mwb Icon. Then if so highlight it (one left click) then delete
Are YOU now 'confused of Essex?':D0
