    Many thanks all, and oldernowiser.
healy, depends what you mean by reasonable. If someone asked how can he get from A to B, then do you think it is reasonable to ask him 'why does he want to go there'? It is none of any one's business. If any one asks for help then help otherwise we should not be asking abnormal questions.

I mean reasonable in the usual meaning of the word.

The questions were perfectly reasonable and normal and logical and it seems at least 3 other people agree with me.

Sebastian - sometimes people need to ask other questions - for all we know, your friend wasn't claiming as he wasn't legally allowed to - possibly on a visa, student visa or something - so yes it was a relevant question!

If I were to ask you 'can I claim benefits'.....you'd need a whole lot more information in order to help me - and all other posters were doing is trying to help you by finding out the relevant info.

Anyways - it's been answered - JSA would be about it - and as he wouldn't be available to look for and accept full time employment, then he/she would be ineligible for that!

Anxiousmum thank you for your comforting words. My friend is a young graduate, a Londoner' born and bread. He just hates going to the Job center, I thought, I will investigate on his behalf.
    kind regards,
