Can't seem to find an answer online

Basically i have been out of work since January claiming JSA contributions based and my partner was a student. She has now finished her first year and is thinking about taking a year out as she is due to give birth in August.

What i want to know is could she claim for anything, IS or JSA? She has used up her student loans paying the rent! We have been waiting for a decision on HB since January! Although we had a letter today stating that we will get nothing! Quick phone call to them and they have misplaced all of our documentation:mad:

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

She is giving birth in August and you want her to go back to uni in September?

    Do you live together?

I am mildly confused, because he also said she was planning on taking a year out after the birth?

Sounds like a difference in what she wants and what he wants!

I think that your first concern needs to be getting your HB sorted out.

Can I ask, have you chased your claim since you made it in January? I only ask as it would be unusual for them to misplace your documentation and then for you not to chase a claim for 4 months?

I would pop down to see the council in person. If they really don't have your documents, you can make a new claim and request a backdate for a max of 6 months. You should take any receipts you have from making your original claim.

Unfortunately, if your OH is a student, the student loan was the income she was entitled to and so no benefits are payable until baby comes along?

Most educational establishments have access funds although these are very limited so perhaps contact the student welfare office?

Also, as a mum to be, she will get some monies for the baby (healthy start grant or something) but her midwife should tell her about these.
