I'm busy comparing various electricity suppliers. I've not lived in my flat long enough to have any typical usage figures for the day and night meters.
I've been searching for data on the internet but I've not had much joy.
For a 1 person, 1 bed flat, what is a typical ratio between night and day use?
"how long is piece of string?" I hear you ask.

My powergem bill this quarter on econ 7 was in total just over £35 .All I can remember(I haven't got my own computer) is that I used 176u during the day and I was charged £5.25 for my night units so my day cost is £30.I have energy saving light bulbs and I used my immersion on a timer to take advantage of econ 7. I used my oven and kettle only during the econ 7 times.I don't used the oven or kettle or iron during the day but I have had the fan on recently.By the way I live in a 2bed terraced not quite a one bedroom flat so hope this gives you a bit of an idea.0

OK, thanks for the info.
I'm going to be really obssessive and take my meter readings every evening for a while.Happy chappy0 -
How do you work out when the cheap times to have your water/oven on? I have only got electric I think we are on heatwise which I have been told is like economy 7 and it is costing a fortune I'd really like to know how I can save.
Is using the kettle really expensive?Murphy's No More Pies Member No. 28 on hold0 -
I'm just trying to find out myself. I believed it was 11.30pm to 6.30am, but it's now 11:40 and the Econ 7 immersion heater isn't operating yet.
I'm going to change the switch to one with an LED in it so I can see when the Econ 7 is on. I'll wait until midnight and see if it switches then.
I can't find any BGas info on the web.
Meanwhile, I've used 3.5 daytime and 4 nightime units in 24 hours. That's 54p, so about £200 per year, not allowing for winter extra heating.Happy chappy0 -

I live in a two bedroom flat with economy 7. My economy 7 runs from midnight to 7am in the winter and 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. during British summertime.
I have 4 storage heaters and the economy 7 immersion for the hot water. I use the washing machine and tumble dryer on ec 7 whenever possible - rarely use the dryer on daytime rates.
I use 10435kwh's over the year. This is split 2538kwh during the daytime and 7897kwh on ecenomy 7, that's just over 75% on the cheapest rate.
I record meter readings regularly, from 14/08/04 to 14/08/05 I used 10433kwh and from 14/08/05 to 14/08/06 I used 10435.0
