Sky+ box problem again!

Options
Hi All
Just been watching a recording on my Sky+ and suddenly it has turned itself off - tried unplugging from mains and waiting but no joy - just the red standby light.

Any advice anyone?

Much appreciate your time.

Sounds like the PSU on the box has blown, you can get it repaired tho. The's a list of repairers on the TV forum.
I take it's a Thompson box? They are notorious for this.

You may need to update your software .
If you want to proceed, turn the skybox off at the mains. Wait for a minute and then press and hold the back up button on the front panel of the box (not the remote control). Now turn the power back on and continue to hold back up for awhile; if you're viewing via SCART then a message will appear shortly to say that the software download is in progress. After reading the message you may let go of back up and go for a cup of tea. Do not press any more buttons, and ensure that the box is not disturbed for at least 10 minutes. Good luck!

..I just have three boxes and when one fails, swap to another. They are often cheap to buy if you shop about, everyone wants Sky+ HD nowadays so the plain jane Sky+ boxes are cheap.
I prefer the PVR2 box, Pace 3100 of course, to later versions because I don't want Anytime hogging 80gb space.

Just in case my elderly but so far reliable Pace 3100 fails, I recently bought another for backup.

I paid the grand total of £5.50 on Ebay and collected it locally. It is in perfect working order with a working remote. The 40gb disk was worth the purchase price alone.

Crescendo, if your box has failed, try buying another cheaply on Ebay rather than attempting a repair.
