Redundancy - similar job role?

Hi All,
Can anyone help me with my query? My redundancy has been finalised in the past 3 weeks, i worked for an international company with various sites across the UK. Another site approx 2 miles down the road from my old employer advertised an almost identical role to mine, same experience, qualifications etc. However I was not alerted to this vacnacy until after the closing date and not by my old employer.
My question is did my employer have a duty to imform me of this vacancy as i have now missed the boat? I am annoyed that I have not had the chance to apply for a job that I know I am more than capable of doing with experience of the same role for my prevoius employer! Is there any action I can take?
Many Thanks

Yes, they are both companies owned by the same parent company.0 -
Read this regarding "offering you suitable alternative employment within their organisation or an associated company". If your situation fits that then it could be considered automatic unfair dismissal.

Certainly worth further investigation if related.
Will probably depend on how the companies are related and in what capacity the parent company operates.
eg:
Would all the companies fully owend by Berkshire Hathaway be considered related for redundancy.0
