Account under Branch Control

Through no fault of my own Natwest for some reason cancelled a Direct Debit from my account resulting in 6 missed loan payments. I agreed to set up a debt management plan with them (increase of overdraft)

First payment should have been taken on the 1st May, however they failed to take it and reduce overdraft accordingly even though more than enough money was there, they did take the loan payment however. So I contacted Debt Management, they won't speak to me as they say I am no longer in collections but been placed under branch control. The branch is too far away for me to go; and I am not quite sure what to do. Surely I should stay in debt management for the next 4 months until I am bang up to date with the loan!

I am a little concerned that they are going to turn around and say that they forgot to take it, therefore I have to give the whole lot at once as it wasn't paid.

I know I shouldn't be saying this; but dammit why won't the bank take my money!

  • A couple of points:

    1. You say "more than enough money was there": for DDs the funds have to be available at the close of business of the last working day before the DD;

    2. Although you have agreed to let them take the money from your account via DD, legally it remains your responsibility to pay. If they fail to take the payment, you're the one in breach. A standing order which you yourself set up and check is a much safer option (money "pushed" rather than "pulled")

    Money was in there over 2 weeks before.

    The idea is that they reduce my overdraft by £130.00 each month rather than me actually paying them 130.00. No standing order/direct debit I can do will have the safe effect as this. Therefore it is up to them to reduce the overdraft.

    Going to need to give this a quick bump. Since Natwest refuse to speak to me on phone (Collections or normal telephone banking people) and branch is too far away so I need help!

    How do I get them to take my money?
